Keeping the Learning Alive

It is important during this time that we continue to reinforce skills already taught while deepening each child’s learning experience.  Early literacy skills are essential to every childs’ future academic success. Both elementary schools began our  K-2 Literacy Initiative in September. This year we worked with a consulting company CSS to boost early literacy skills. Students were placed in WIN (What I Need) Groups for the purpose of delivering specific instruction that is personalized to maximize growth for individual learners. Before the decision to close schools, we were seeing excellent progress in our students. Our goal is to continue to do whatever we can, as best as we possibly can. You can help us do this at home.

What to Expect

To continue growing your child's early literacy skills, homeroom teachers and WIN teachers in each grade have worked together to build weekly lessons.  Lessons designed to continue building specific early literacy skills have been created by the consulting group the district has worked with to help our teachers deliver the best literacy instruction for our students. These lessons are included in weekly remote learning plans. Beginning April 27, we are adding an additional layer of support from your child’s specific WIN teacher. In addition, you will find resources for your early reader in the K-2 Resources tab on the district’s website.


Where to Go for Help

If your child seems to struggle with a particular activity, encourage them to pause, take a break and start again. The activities are not meant to take the place of face-to-face instruction; however, it is our hope that we can keep your child connected to early literacy skills through reputable resources. While these plans do not require parents to teach, they are best received when an adult is present to oversee the lesson.  If you have questions or need further direction, please contact your child’s teacher via email.
